Don’t mind me saying so, but I think I prefer 2. What do you think Steve?

    1. Thanks Bruce! It was a good week, I truly appreciate the kind words in your email. I really do hope it is a lasting impact for you AND the TurfCare team.

  3. Hello Mr. Keating,

I am writing to request a Radio interview with you about your article, “Can You Lead You?”. The interview would be conducted via telephone, and would require about 30 minutes of time. It would be a live interview with Matt Townsend. Our morning show is a news magazine format and our stories are similar to those that are aired on NPR’s Morning Edition. Our signal is heard nationwide on Sirius XM channel 143. We’re also on DISH Network channel 980, iTunes Radio, and we have a live Web stream a thttp://www.byuradio.org. We also have an iOS app and an Android app. Archived episodes of the show may be accessed at http://www.byuradio.org/morningshow .

If you are interested in participating in this interview, please let me know.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

    Lizz Miller

  4. Thanks for helping me do my part to leave the planet a better place. I’m happy and humbled to have you as my customer.

  5. Stumbled upon your blog while doing some “research” about using passion as an excuse (great blog, btw!). Went on to read a bit more and will certainly share that your thoughts on leadership transcends to many different arenas. I’ve chosen to serve as an elementary school principal and have already considered many practical ways in which to quote you and share your writing with our school instructional leadership team. I’d like to ask your permission to do so. Thank you for your views of leadership. You are building a better world!

    1. Thank you for your kind words. I would say as an elementary school principal your work is some of the most important work in the world.

My only goal for this blog is to pass along wisdom that has been shared with me through the years. I ask for nothing in return. If you find anything here of value for your team I would consider it a high compliment if you shared it with them so please feel free to do so.

  6. Hey Steve,

You’re one of my favorite leaders. Would you please like to share 2-3 qualities that make a successful leader?

I know you’re busy so a brief response is more than enough 🙂

    Thanks you so much!

    1. Well first of course would be integrity, if your people can’t trust you they can’t follow you. Without integrity trust simply isn’t possible.

Next would be a caring nature. It’s not possible to truly lead people that you don’t care about. Leading requires that you invest a part of yourself in those you would lead, it’s nearly impossible to give a part of yourself to someone you don’t care about.

Third would be good judgment. There have been plenty of well meaning leaders who failed because of poor judgment. Judgment goes along with being able to make a decision, not making a decision is the worst decision can make. It almost always leads to greater problems.

Hope that helps, there are of course many more essential qualities but those are my big three!

  7. Good day, Mr. Keating.
I am the editor for my fire department’s newsletter. Our fire chief, Freddie Broome, would like to use your blog post from 03Aug2017, “Who is Leading Who?”, for the leadership section of our newsletter and I am requesting permission to reprint it.
    Thank you for your time.
